Introduction to GMPLS (Half-Day)

Course Overview:
The half-day Introduction to GMPLS Tutorial explores the architectural concepts and its fit in networks to make SONET/SDH and optical layers more dynamic in operation. Offering an overview of the GMPLS control plane, routing and signaling protocols and their extensions with a review of the ongoing standards activities, this course builds a foundation for understanding GMPLS.

Course Outline:
Section 1: GMPLS: What is it?
Section 2: Introduction to MPLS and Traffic Engineering
Section 3: Introduction to the GMPLS Architecture, Control Plane and Extensions for
SONET/SDH and OTN
Section 4: GMPLS Standards body Interaction and Direction

Intended Audience:
This course is intended for those who already have a familiarity with MPLS technology and want to learn more about GMPLS. It is assumed that the attendee has a basic understanding of MPLS protocols and how MPLS packet forwarding operates. The intended audience for this tutorial are those who work in marketing, product management, quality assurance, customer support, applications engineering, systems engineering, network operations staff or those development engineers who are new to the area of GMPLS.

Updates:
This presentation was copyrighted by the MPLS & Frame Relay Alliance, a predecessor of the IP/MPLS Forum, in 2004. Recent technology changes and standards will not be reflected in this tutorial.
