Meetings & Events: INTEROPERABILITY EVENTS

Past Interop Events

Dates:  April 1-3, 2008
Venue:  CTIA Wireless, Booth 4119

The IP/MPLS Forum, Metro Ethernet Forum and European Advanced Network Test Center (EANTC) showcased a 15-vendor Mobile Backhaul Interoperability demonstration during the CTIA Wireless show April 1-3 in Las Vegas, NV.

The vendors demonstrated how a wireless operator could migrate from today’s ATM and TDM backhaul to an Ethernet and IP/MPLS-based solution. In particular, these demonstrations show how traffic from a Radio Access Network (RAN) could be carried over Metro Ethernet and an IP/MPLS core. Additionally, the demo shows how service providers can operate metro/aggregation networks based on Provider Backbone Bridging-Transport Engineering (PBB-TE), Transport MPLS (T-MPLS) and MPLS.

This demonstration was originally conducted at the MPLS & Ethernet World Congress in Paris and the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, 2008.

MPLS World Congress Interoperability Event
Venue: EANTC Labs, Berlin, Germany

Interoperability Test Event (PDF Format)
The MPLS World Congress Interoperability event took place January 17-26, 2007 in EANTC's labs in Berlin, Germany.  A total of 13 leading vendors from edge to carrier-class core routers participated in the event which was proven to be challenging yet successful.

EANTC's engineers in collaboration with Deutsche Telekom (T-Systems), Versatel and participating vendors developed a comprehensive test plan following industry best practices, Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) RFCs and Metro Ethernet Standards to verify interoperability between various inter-carrier solutions, access redundancy,  fault monitoring and multicast in L3VPNs.

The resulting networks, supporting business and residential services such as VoIP and IPTV, was presented at the MPLS World Congress in Paris, France in February 7-9, 2007.
Date Approved: February 2007

Dates: 15 - 18 February 2005
Venue: Hotrel Sofitel Paris Forum Rive Gauche
Presented by: http://www.upperside.fr

Once again, MPLS World provided attendees with insight into the business and technical strategies that are being discussed and that allow carriers to migrate existing services to an MPLS infrastructure while preserving today's valuable revenue sources - ATM, Frame Relay, Voice and TDM.

The MPLS World Congress has always closely followed the evolutions of MPLS. This year's conference schedule addressed in particular Voice over MPLS, Interdomain issues and VPNs deployments.

The MFA SUPERDemo
Eleven companies participated in the 2004 MPLS & FR Alliance SUPERDemo. This year the MFA partnered with the Multiservice Switching Forum (MSF) and expanded the scope of the interoperability demonstration. The showcase featured the most advanced service provider applications, including:
  • VoIP and Video over an MPLS backbone
  • Hierarchical Virtual Private LAN Services (H-VPLS)
  • PNNI-MPLS Interworking
  • Label Switched Path (LSP) ping and traceroute
  • Multi-vendor MPLS / BGP VPNs and Layer 2 Ethernet
SUPERCOMM Industry Update Panel
On Monday, June 21st, Andrew Malis, Chairman and President of the MPLS & Frame Relay Alliance, facilitated a SUPERCOMM Industry update session. Panelists were:
  • Andrew Malis, Research Fellow, Tellabs and Chairman and President, MPLS and Frame Relay Alliance (Chairperson)

  • Gary Leonard, Director, Riverstone Networks and Vice President of Marketing, MPLS and Frame Relay Alliance

  • Ananda Sen Gupta, Product Marketing Manager, Agilent Technologies and Vice Chairman, International Development, MPLS and Frame Relay Alliance

  • John Sax, VP and CTO, Lucent Technologies

  • Mark Carroll, Cisco, MSF Board Member

MPLS & Frame Relay Alliance Showcases Traffic Engineered VPN Services at MPLS World Congress

12 companies demonstrated Quality of Service (QoS)-enabled VPN services over an MPLS network at MPLS World Congress in Paris. Conference attendees witnessed for the first time, a live, public, multi-vendor demonstration of how dynamic, constraint-based routing and signaling, Traffic Engineering (TE) and Differentiated Services (Diffserv) can guarantee the quality of real-time applications, including voice and video, across MPLS.
